NCCU’s DeLeon Earns MEAC Baseball Player of the Week
NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior Luis DeLeon (Providence, R.I.) generated substantial power and hit safely in all five games last week for the Eagles, and he has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts, the conference office announced on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
DeLeon carried a .471 (8-for-17) batting average and hit five extra-base hits, including four doubles and one home run to drive in eight RBI with an impressive .882 slugging percentage. He also walked four times and picked up a .591 on-base percentage. His best game of the week came against High Point when he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two RBI.
Through the first eight games of the season, DeLeon is leading the club with a .423 batting average, and a .692 slugging percentage. This is his first career weekly award and the first of the season for NCCU.
The Eagles travel to High Point on Tuesday, Feb. 25, and then host Presbyterian on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park.
