You is a psychological thriller series currently available on Netflix and based on a 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes. The first season follows the relationship between a male bookstore owner and female writer from an innocent crush to a more sinister obsession. You is currently scheduled to release its third season this year. It’s the perfect series for those that enjoy suspense and twisted love stories.

The Witcher

This American fantasy drama created by Lauren Schmidt follows a book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. It follows the tale of a monster hunter named Geralt in a medieval fantasy world. The real monsters are the human beings that he encounters along the way. Like Game Of Thrones, it’s not a fantasy series for kids. The first season was released last year on Netflix – more seasons are currently in the making.  

The Handmaid’s Tale

Adapted from the sensational 1985 novel of the same name, this dystopian tragedy drama is set in an alternative America in which women have become child-bearing slaves. It’s a dark series and it’s not an easy watch, but it’s incredibly gripping and has many themes that are relevant in today’s world. There are three seasons currently out with a fourth on the way.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

This acclaimed TV series is adapted from Lemony Snicket’s series of children’s novels, which follows the tale of the Baudelaire children as they are moved from foster home to foster home, each time pursued by the malicious Count Olaf who is intent on getting his hands on their inheritance. It features a great cast of actors and a beautiful score from Daniel Handler. It’s a series suitable for kids and adults alike, featuring a lot of dark humor and eccentric characters.

Catch-22

Catch-22 is adapted from the 1961 cult classic novel by Joseph Heller. The series is set at an airbase in world war 2 and follows Yossarian, a pilot who tries everything he can to avoid flying. It’s both dark and humorous and features a great cast, including the likes of George Clooney. The mini-series premiered on Hulu last year.
