Raleigh, NC – Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) has a new head athletic trainer, and it’s a familiar face.

The SAU Department of Athletics hired Mijon Knight, who was an assistant athletic trainer at SAU from 2017 to 2018. Knight, who started her new position Monday, July 6, is ecstatic about returning to SAU.

“I am humbled and honored to have been afforded the opportunity to return to Saint Augustine’s University in this capacity,” Knight said. “I am excited to see what this next endeavor has in store for me. I hope to make a positive impact on the student-athletes that will be entrusted to me, as well as help support the overall success of SAU’s Department of Athletics.”

Knight has prepared herself for this moment. She has been an assistant or head athletic trainer at several organizations and schools, including Virginia State University where she was the assistant athletic trainer for the past two seasons.

She made an impact in the profession on the very first job of her career. As the head athletic trainer at Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C., she developed the school’s first sports medicine program. She worked at Word of God from 2013 to 2015.

Born in New Haven, Conn., and raised in Greenville, N.C.,  Mijon Knight has a bachelor’s degree in athletic training at North Carolina Central University (2012) and a Master’s degree in rehabilitation science from California (Pa.) University (2017).

“I am truly thankful for this opportunity and privilege,” Knight said. “I feel ready and prepared for the task in front of me.”
