Durham, NC – North Carolina Central University Director of Athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree has been announced as a member of the executive committee for the newly-formed Black AD Alliance.

The Black AD Alliance is committed to promoting the growth, development, and elevation of Black athletics administrators at the Division I level. The group will engage industry decision-makers to provide exposure for aspiring Black college athletics professionals through purposeful mentoring, and foster connections with those who will aid in positioning leaders in intercollegiate athletics.

“This is an amazing group of passionate administrative leaders, but most importantly, men and women who have decided to put deeds to action by promoting, advocating, and supporting each other in the collegiate athletics industry,” said McCree.

“Throughout my career as a coach and administrator, I have always supported professional organizations that promote minorities in college athletics, such as the former AVCA Minority Coaches Committee, Women Leaders in College Sports, NACDA Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, and the Women of Color AD Network,” McCree added. “I am proud to be a part of yet another organization dedicated to uplifting our profession as Black men and women.

“We need to continue raising awareness and the importance of social justice, racial equality, and basic access to opportunities. I pledge my support and hope to continue to reach back and serve our mission for the greater good and the young professionals who will come behind us.”

More than 50 Black athletics directors at the Division I level have been active participants in the discussions since the death of George Floyd. Auburn University Director of Athletics Allen Greene and University of Missouri Kansas City Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin will serve as co-chairs of the Alliance.

From the group, a 15-person Black AD Alliance executive committee has been established, including Omar Banks (Campbell University), Tim Duncan (University of New Orleans), Damon Evans (University of Maryland), Derrick Gragg (University of Tulsa), Charles Guthrie (University of Wisconsin Green Bay), Derek Horne (Alcorn State University), Martin Jarmond (University of California, Los Angeles), Candice Lee (Vanderbilt University), Warde Manuel (University of Michigan), Bernard Muir (Stanford University), Lee Reed (Georgetown University), Ed Scott (Morgan State University), Tamica Smith Jones (University of California, Riverside), Ingrid Wicker McCree (North Carolina Central University) and Carla Williams (University of Virginia).

Strategic priorities include promoting professional advancement among Division I Black athletics directors and minority athletics administrators, partner with NCAA senior leadership and NACDA, collaborate with MOAA, and provide a comprehensive plan for action in support of racial and social justice.

Smaller task forces have been created to include: Allies, Pipeline/Recruitment, Social Justice, HBCUs, Student-Athlete Wellness and Development, and Ambassadors.
