Rapper Cash Corey has been selected as the Spectacular Magazine Featured Artist of the Week for the week of January 5, 2021. Cash Corey, whose real name is Corey Cotten, is an independent hip-hop artist from Aberdeen, North Carolina.

Cash Corey began pursuing his musical career in early 2018. “Struggle” was the first song he released, not anticipating that it was going to be the start of a career. Starting off as a photographer/videographer for his friend’s music sparked a flame in him with one random YouTube beat.

Two years later, Cash Corey has and is continuing to shape his passion. His latest release on Youtube, “Can’t Give Up” is an excellent contrast to see how much he has grown from his first song. Cash has a unique sound which some people may say “it sounds like what’s his name,” but it’s no-one other than Cash Corey himself with the trap/R&B sound that’s so original and fresh. He recently released an album titled Cash Story 2 which is available on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and YouTube, etc.

Angelica Bonds (AB): When did you start making music?

CASH: I started making music in early 2018 just playing around and got serious in 2019.

AB: In what ways has your music changed since you’ve gotten started?

CASH: My music has changed drastically from quality to the way I flow on the beat to adding adlibs. Basically, everything within these past couple of years because I’m very big on quality and feel like there’s always room for growth and improvement with my craft.

AB: What is your motivation for your art?

CASH: My motivation for my music are the people around me, my team, my family, and everybody who shows genuine love and support to my craft. That support is what keeps me going.

AB: Who are your musical or artistic influences?

CASH: My musical influences would be people around me. One of my partners got me started on the music scene since then I didn’t stop. Another one of my team members, Shonna, has really helped as far as introducing me to more people on the music scene since I moved to Raleigh NC. Some music industry influences would be YFN Lucci, Yung Bleu, and NoCap.

AB: Are there any artists with whom you would like to collaborate with? Why?

CASH: I would definitely like to collaborate with NoCap and Rylo Rodriguez which are two underground artists from Alabama. I would also like to collaborate with Lil Baby just because we all have a similar sound and I think it will be a dope outcome if we lock in on a track!

AB: Do you have any upcoming projects, showcases, or appearances? What is your next step?

CASH: There are no upcoming showcases or appearances however I am getting ready for an album release to start off the new year right! My team, Underrated, is building the anticipation for my third major project “Saved by the Deen”.  The album should be dropping mid-February on all music platforms. I’m currently doing a lot of social media promo / on foot promo (flyers, cards, stickers, etc) and whatever else that will catch people’s eye. I am very hyped about this project!
