NCCU Falls to Florida A&M

Tallahassee, FL—The North Carolina Central University Eagles dropped their fourth contest of the season to Florida A&M University in a 59-50 loss. NCCU struggled to convert three-pointers all night, going 2-of-17 from this distance during the contest. The Eagles were stifled in the first half, recording a paltry 18  first-half points on 7-of-29 shooting.

The NCCU defense was a virtual sieve throughout, surrendering good looks from beyond the arc all night. Florida A&M converted 42.9% of their three-point baskets en route to a decisive wire-to-wire victory. The Rattlers managed to whip the ball around and generate a myriad of open shots to the tune of 17 assists as a team.

Junior Florida A&M Guard Jai Clark punished the NCCU perimeter defense, recording four makes in eight three-point attempts en route to a 16 point performance.

NCCU’s team couldn’t keep their heads above water as the contest unfolded. The Eagles fell behind by ten points after twelve minutes of action in the first half. With a quickly mounting deficit to begin the second half, the Eagles were faced with the choice of rolling over and conceding victory lightly or clawing their way to the finish. The Eagles came out firing and managed to outscore the Rattlers 32-31 in the second half.

Redshirt senior C.J. Keyser led the way in scoring for the Eagles with 13 points and eight rebounds on a 4-of-8 shooting performance from the field.

Redshirt senior forward Jahnathan Maxwell recorded an efficient ten points on 5-of-10 shooting in addition to five rebounds and one steal.

Redshirt junior Jamir Moultrie recorded seven points in a poor shooting performance that saw him go 3-of-11 from the field.

The NCCU Eagles (4-4, 2-1 MEAC) look ahead to an immediate rematch with the FAMU Rattlers (3-8, 2-2 MEAC) on February 9th at the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee, Florida.
