Jones, Green to Run For NCCU in NCAA Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Carolina Central University seniors Marvin Jones and Earl Green will travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to compete in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships on May 26-29 at the University of North Florida.

Jones will be participating in the men’s high jump, where he excelled this season, including winning the gold medal at the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a 2.09-meter leap. The Hillsborough, North Carolina, native also has not finished outside the top-five in any of the events he competed in so far this season and has three first-place performances.

The men’s high jump competition begins on Friday at 1 p.m.

Green will be competing in the men’s 400-meter hurdles race. He brought home the bronze medal in the event at the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 52.46 seconds. Green earned his spot by running a better time in the event at the Aggie Classic Twilight hosted by North Carolina A&T on May 16, finishing in 51.56 seconds.

The first round of the men’s 400m hurdles is scheduled to start on Wednesday at 8:20 p.m.

The qualifiers out of the regional championships will compete in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
