WSSU Key Impact Players

Winston-Salem, NC – The Winston Salem State Rams (WSSU) football team is coming off a 41-0 rout of Saint Augustine’s University this past Saturday.

Three Key Offensive Players:

Junior Quarterback Cameron Lewis (Atlanta, GA)

Cameron Lewis was named CIAA Quarterback of the week after throwing for 238 yards and three touchdowns, collecting another on the ground, helping lead the Rams to a victory last week. Lewis completed 15 of his 26 passing attempts in the win and will continue to use his legs to make plays on the ground as well to keep this WSSU offense intact and consistent.

Freshman Wide Receiver Antjuan Collins (Charlotte, NC)

Collins was named CIAA Rookie of the week after a stellar performance Saturday. Collins hauled in seven catches for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Rams win. Lewis has made Collins a primary target in the offense, and as a freshman, he still has a lot to prove.

Sophomore Running Back Andrew Hayes (Durham, NC)

Hayes rushed for 72 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown for the Rams last week while splitting carries with junior Running Back Cameron Davis. Hayes is consistently proving himself in the Rams offense, and I think his utilization in the running game will only go up from here.

Senior Linebacker Ta’shaun Taylor (Durham, NC)

Last week, Taylor recorded six total tackles, one sack, and two tackles for losses in the rams win over St. Augustine. Throughout his time with the Rams, he has essentially been the captain of the defense, keeping the defensive unit together and focused each week.

Senior Cornerback Elijah Banks (Winston-Salem, NC)

Named CIAA DB of the week, Banks is the Rams number one corner and has three interceptions on the season along with a fumble recovery. Banks has proven to be the best cover corner on this Rams defensive unit and continues to prove himself each week.

Junior Defensive Tackle Dantrell Barkley (Kannapolis, NC)

Sitting at 6’4 and 285 pounds, Barkley has collected 16 total tackles on the season. Despite his size, Barkley is quick off the ball and can clog up a hole at any given time. He has been effective in stopping the run for the Rams all season and has no plans of taking his foot off the gas anytime soon.
