Predicting Wake Forest And Duke

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (7-0, ACC 4-0) are set to host the Duke Blue Devils (3-4, ACC 0-3) in its homecoming game on Saturday in an ACC tilt at 4 PM at Truist field.

The Demon Deacons are currently rolling during the 2021 campaign sitting at an undefeated 7-0 record and atop the ACC standings. The offense has been the strength for this Deacons team all season long, averaging 43 points per game led by Redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman is coming off a stellar performance last week in a 70-56 road victory over Army.

The win marked the 3rd highest points scored in Demon Deacon history and the highest in a road performance, according to godeacs.com.

In last week’s victory, Hartman had a career day throwing for 455 yards, marking the sixth-most passing yards in Wake Forest history and a career-high five touchdowns, while also completing an astronomical 79% of his passes.

The Wide Receiver duo of redshirt junior Jaquarii Roberson and redshirt sophomore A.T. Perry have made this Deacons passing attack so tough to stop all season. Last week, Roberson led the way, tallying 157 yards on eight catches and scoring three touchdowns. Perry also had himself a day collecting 146 yards on six catches and a touchdown. The speed of these receivers has caused problems for opposing defenses all year, and it will be interesting to see what Blue Devil head coach David Cutcliffe can draw up schematically to slow down this passing attack come Saturday.

As for the Devils, it has been a rocky road after dropping three of their last four contests, more notably this previous week after getting routed in shutout fashion by ACC foe Virginia 48-0.

With the Demon Deacons passing attack so solid and consistent all year, it is hard to imagine the Blue Devils and quarterback Gunner Holmberg to be able to keep up offensively and force stops down the stretch, especially being on the road.

My prediction: Wake Forest keeps their unbeaten record alive and wins on homecoming in dominant fashion 48-14.
