Shaw vs Winston-Salem State Prediction
RALEIGH, NC – On Saturday, October 30th, 2021, the Shaw Bears will be fresh off their 20-14 Homecoming victory over Johnson C. Smith when they host their CIAA South rival, the Winston-Salem State Rams, who are 3-2 in the conference and 3-4 overall.
I believe it will be a very tight game, thanks to the vigorous defense of Shaw and the high-powered offense of Winston-Salem State. The Rams used it effectively in their previous two victories over Saint Augustine’s and Livingstone College.
Players to watch for the Bears are senior line linebacker Devon Hunt (Hamlet, NC with 70 tackles) and senior defensive end Dast Sturkie (Anniston, AL with 22 tackles) will make solid contributions to stop the offensive attack. At the same time, sophomore running backs Sidney Gibbs (Black Mountain, NC), who leads the team with 119
rushing yards, and Andre Brandon Jr. (Baltimore, MD) leading the Bears with eight rushing touchdowns will use their decisive ground game to keep the Bears on the scoreboard.
Don’t forget about the outstanding freshman kicker named Devin Versteegen from nearby Rolesville, NC. Versteegen has made all of his field-goal attempts so far while only converting 85% on his PAT’s (Points After Attempts).
For the Rams of Winston-Salem State, look out for junior quarterback Cameron Lewis from Atlanta, Georgia. The 6″ 3 East Tennessee State transfer leads the Rams in passing with 952 yards and nine touchdowns, and seven interceptions. In the previous game against Livingstone, Lewis completed 21 out of 25 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Plus, he led the team in rushing with 44 yards. Lewis earned CIAA Player of the Week honors on October 9th, thanks to his 238 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns, in a 26-12 road victory over Johnson C. Smith.
Also, look out for freshman sensation wide receiver Antjuan Collins from Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Rams. He is making his name known by leading the Rams with 399 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
In the end, I believe that Shaw will be able to come out with the win by a score of 28-24. The kickoff for Saturday’s game is expected to be at 1:00 PM.
