Thayer Thomas Remains Reliable For The Wolfpack

RALEIGH NC – Thayer Thomas has been highly productive over the past couple of games and continues to build on his career season in a Wolfpack (6-2) 28-13 win over Lousiville (4-4) on Saturday evening. The Pack is now officially bowl-eligible after defeating the Cardinals and they should keep rolling in an already impressive season.

In the team’s win, it was not Thomas’s best showing having 3 receptions for 16 yards, but he still keeps making an impact even where the stats do not necessarily show. He has been a phenomenal contributor on special teams returning punts and has proved to be an above-average blocker as well. His recent surge has also created matchup problems for opposing defenses, and players like Emeka Emezie and Devin Carter have benefited from it. Both Emezie and Carter recorded touchdowns in the victory as Eemzie was the leading receiver with 91 yards off 5 catches.

Entering the contest, Thomas was second on the team in receptions (34), second in receiving yards (383), and first in touchdowns (6). He has scored in every game except for three and has been extremely reliable for QB Devin Leary averaging over 11 yards per catch. His breakout game came in their victory over Boston College, where he was the top pass catcher hauling in 4 receptions, 122, and a 79-yard touchdown. He impressively responded in the loss versus Miami the following week with 7 receptions, 71 yards, and 2 touchdowns.

He has an opportunity to put together his best season in his stint at NC State. Prior to 2021, his best season came a year ago with 42 catches, 529 yards, and 6 touchdowns. Thomas is on pace to surpass all those statistics. The 6-footer has been able to make multiple explosive plays which have been a pleasant surprise. His breakaway speed and athleticism have made him become a major threat for any secondary.

This Pack offense has been productive all season long, and Thomas is a significant reason for its success. They will attempt to snag consecutive victories as they are set to travel to Florida State (3-5) next Saturday to take on the Seminoles.
