TULSA, OK – For three days in October, the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation (NJOF) organization met in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the 4th Annual Juneteenth Directors & Planning meeting, covering a plethora of ground keeping in line with the programming and events that needed attention. One of the most eye-catching events was the 2nd Annual National Miss Juneteenth Pageant, which was held at the First Presbyterian Church.  Miss Juneteenth Oregon Aceia (Ace) Spade, a 17-year-old who was born in Alabama and raised in Oregon, was crowned queen.

Ace, as she likes to be called, is a senior at Churchill High School and upon completion, plans to attend the University of Oregon and major in criminal law. At an early age, Ace wanted to show her passion and the opportunity to help and share a history of her ancestral spirit. In 2021 a piece of her dream has come true, she will shine as National Miss Juneteenth for the next 12 months and showcase to young ladies the power of a dream and hard work.

First Runner-Up is Miss Juneteenth Delaware Sophia Hughes, who also won the talent competition. The Second Runner-Up is Miss Juneteenth Fort Worth Texas Precious Maku. Miss Juneteenth Pueblo Colorado Ava Parker received the title of Miss Congeniality. Other contestants were Miss Juneteenth San Antonio Texas Sydney Jackson, Miss Juneteenth Jackson Tennessee M’Kenzie Lumas-Harmon, Miss Juneteenth Tampa Bay Tatiana Bell, and Miss Juneteenth Topeka Kansas Christyaun Ware

Hanging out with all the contestants for a day taking pictures and video, we all enjoyed and engaged on a tour bus that cruised around the city. There were guides and speakers that gave history updates on many places of interest. The young ladies were quite excited and amazed about what they heard and saw. Seeing and feeling how relaxed they were and how they interacted with each other was extraordinary. Especially knowing that the next day they would be competing against one another for the coveted National Miss Juneteenth 2021 pageant crown.

The 2022 National Miss Juneteenth Pageant will take Oct. 13-16 in Galveston, Texas. Information on the Miss Juneteenth North Carolina pageant will be announced soon. For more information about the national pageant, email juneteenthdelaware@gmail.com.
