RALEIGH, NC – Advance North Carolina, 501(c)(4), and the North Carolina Black Alliance, 501(c)(3), have named Jovita Lee as the new Program and Policy Director. In this role, Jovita will bring greater strategic alignment and capacity to program areas centered in the commitment statements of the Alliance and will guide policy issue IDs for the 2022 Mid-term election cycle, including leading the Black and Brown Policy Network on behalf of the Alliance.

“This new role represents a culmination of several years of growing investment between Ms. Lee and our enterprise. Serving in various capacities over the past five years and more directly supporting the development of our Environmental Justice program since 2020, and working with our teams to strategically guide program and policy efforts, made her the ideal candidate for this position. We look forward to her strengthening NC Black Alliance and Advance Carolina core programs in this role,” said Marcus Bass, Executive Director for Advance Carolina.

Jovita holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, and a Master of Arts in Public Administration, and is currently an Ed.D. student with a concentration in Organizational Leadership.

Previously, Jovita worked as Senior Environmental Justice Campaigner for the Center for Biological Diversity, headquartered in Arizona. She brings over 10 years of experience in advocacy, organizing, and policy work.

“I am so excited to be back home with Advance Carolina and NC Black Alliance serving in this capacity. I look forward to being able to further establish our already bold presence in the policy space here in North Carolina,” said Lee.
