Duke Basketball Continues Children’s Charity Stripe Challenge

DURHAM – Each Duke men’s basketball home game this season features the Duke Children’s Charity Stripe Challenge, an ongoing fundraising initiative that combines the power and passion of Duke men’s basketball with a highly engaging campaign to benefit Duke Children’s Hospital.

Held either prior to tipoff or at halftime of each contest played at Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Challenge welcomes a Duke personality or celebrity guest to the floor, where they will step up to the “charity stripe” and shoot a foul shot to help raise money for Duke Children’s. A made shot will earn $1,000 and a missed shot is worth $500.

“We are grateful for the longtime partnership and support of Coach K and Duke Men’s Basketball which has now reached a new level with the Charity Stripe Challenge,” said Ann M. Reed, chair of the department of pediatrics and physician-in-chief of Duke Children’s. “Now Duke Men’s Basketball’s commitment to supporting clinical care, pediatric research, and provider education at Duke Children’s is on display at every home game for the fans to see. We hope that this inspires Blue Devil fans to join in supporting the incredible work we do at Duke Children’s by getting involved with the Charity Stripe Challenge. Our heartfelt thanks to the entire Duke Men’s Basketball family, especially our longtime friend Coach K, for partnering on this new initiative.”

Fans who can’t be at Cameron Indoor Stadium this season can still join the Charity Stripe Challenge Fan Pledge. Choose a fixed amount to pledge for every free throw made by the Blue Devils during the 2021-22 season, or choose to make a one-time pledge to show your support. Approximately 550 free throws are made during a typical season. At the end of the season, your total pledge will make a significant impact on the patients at Duke Children’s.

Duke’s 103 made free throws so far this season have raised $31,159.65 through the Charity Stripe Challenge. The Blue Devils are back in action for four consecutive home games this month, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 14, when they welcome South Carolina State at Cameron for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
