Top Tips For A Job Interview

If you have a job interview coming up, it’s likely you’re feeling nervous. After all, you want to ensure you do your best in order to hopefully get the job in question. Because no matter if you want a career in politics to work your way up to the net worth of Sen. Joe Manchin, or if you are looking to become a dentist or doctor, interviews are unfortunately inevitable. Here we have put together some top interview tips that will hopefully help you along the way.

Research the company beforehand

When you have been applying for jobs, it’s likely you would have got offers for an interview from a few different places. Make sure that you treat each one as if it’s the most important one, doing sufficient research beforehand. Find out how long the company has been trading, what their values are, and a bit about the background of the business. You could look at their social media for a more detailed insight into the company. The more you know, the better you will look in your interview. It will show your potential future employers that you are committed and dedicated to the company. Also be sure to research the industry so you know what to expect, especially if you are moving to a completely different industry from where you’ve worked before.

Have a list of questions ready to ask

Your interviewer will always ask at the end if you have any questions and it’s important that you have some prepared to ask them. There’s nothing more awkward than sitting there with nothing to say and it can indicate you aren’t really interested in the role. There are many different questions you could ask, such as “What is the company culture like” or “Why do you like working here yourself?” You could ask about the staff turnover and find out about what the hours are like and if you can work from home or the office.

 Work out your route

Even if you think you know where the interview is, it’s still a good idea to practice the route you will take in order to get there. This will mean on the day you don’t have to stress about how you will get there and can just focus on the interview. Figure out if you will go by public transport and how long it will take, factoring in traffic such as during rush hour. If you are driving, be sure to check out if there is parking, whether you have to pay and if they don’t have a car park, where you can leave your car. You could do a trial run to see how long it will take and figure out all the logistics.

Plan your outfit

Your outfit is one of the most important aspects of your interview and will be the first impression that they get of you. Because of this, you want to ensure you look your best. Make sure you wear something smart such as a trouser suit or a skirt and shirt. Also, be sure to not forget your shoes – these need to be clean and presentable and it’s often said that shoes are the first thing people notice about you. During your interview, you could ask about the dress code, but even if you know it’s informal, you want to show up to your interview looking smart.

Rehearse with a friend

If you are feeling nervous about your interview, one of the best things to do is rehearse with a friend or family member. Get them to read out a list of interview questions while you answer them. This is a great way to prepare yourself ahead of time and means you will be ready for some of the questions on the day, rather than being caught off guard. It can help you feel more confident and ready to do your best in the interview.

These are just a few top tips for a job interview. By being as prepared as possible ahead of time, it will make the day run a lot smoother and be much less stressful. Be sure to plan your outfit ahead of time and that it is relevant to the job at hand and make sure there is more than enough time for you to get to your interview taking into account traffic.
