SAU Falcons Announce 2022 Football Schedule

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 3) – The Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) Falcons released its 2022 football schedule Wednesday, and the quality of opponents makes it one of the most exciting and anticipated slates in recent memory.

Three-time defending champion and national quarterfinalist Bowie State headline a CIAA schedule featuring several conference contenders. The two non-conference foes are members of the rugged South Atlantic Conference.

The 10-game slate features home games against Limestone, Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State, and Livingstone in addition to Bowie State. the kickoff for all home games will be 1 p.m. at the George Williams Athletic Complex.

The Falcons play away games at Tusculum, Virginia State, Virginia Union, and Fayetteville State. The annual Raleigh Classic matchup against Shaw counts as an away game, even though the site is the George Williams Athletic Complex.

This year, all eight CIAA games will count in the conference standings. In previous seasons, the teams played a seven-game CIAA slate.

“We are very excited about the competitive schedule for the 2022 season,” SAU Head Coach David Bowser said. “Expanding the CIAA football schedule to eight games will help us showcase how exciting the football is in our conference.”

The Falcons begin the regular season on the road on Sept. 1 against Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn. They make their home debut on Sept. 10 against Limestone in the first-ever meeting between both teams.

The Limestone contest will be designated as Prostate Awareness Day, First Responders Day, and the 20th anniversary of the return of football at SAU.

The eight-game conference schedule starts Sept. 17 with a road contest against Virginia State. The Falcons return home to host Bowie State on Sept. 24. The Bowie State game is designated as Family Weekend Day, Military Appreciation Day, and the 25th anniversary of the 1997 CIAA Men’s Basketball Championship.

After the Bowie State game, the Falcons will play a pair of road games. They visit Virginia Union on Oct. 1 and Fayetteville State on Oct. 8 in their first Southern Division game.

The remainder of the season will be played on campus, including three straight home games. The Falcons host Johnson C. Smith (Oct. 15), Winston-Salem State (Oct. 22), and Livingstone (Oct. 29).

The Johnson C. Smith game will be played on Homecoming Day and Hall of Fame Day and the Winston-Salem State contest will be designated as the Pink Game and Donor Appreciation Day.

The Livingstone game will be on Senior Day and Community Day.

SAU will defend its Raleigh Classic title against Shaw on Nov. 5. Last season, the Falcons topped their crosstown rival 21-17 to claim the Raleigh Classic trophy.

The Falcons return 81 lettermen under Coach Bowser. He will be entering his second season as Falcons’ head coach.

Season ticket information will be released later this spring.
