Chevrolet Camaro Named the Most Popular Car in Hip-Hop Music Video History

Of all the props regularly used in hip-hop music videos, cars are by far the most prominent. The vehicles are often used to represent something, most signifying a symbol of success.

With this in mind, using the music video database from Internet Movie Cars Database (IMCDB), and isolating the hip-hop artists, Dick Lovett, a leading top quality car specialist, has discovered the all-time most popular cars in hip-hop music videos.

When it comes to popular cars in music videos, there aren’t many manufacturers that have the range that Chevrolet can claim. Featuring 1,176 times in the hip-hop genre alone, with the Camaro making the most appearances. In recent years, the Chevrolet Corvette gained heightened media attention after Popp Hunna Feat. Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Adderall’ went viral on TikTok, which had millions dancing to the “Corvette, Corvette” lyrics. 

A close second is Ford with 1,045 appearances, which is mainly due to the fact that the Police Interceptor is heavily featured within hip-hop music storylines. 

Mercedes comes in third place with 703 cars featured in music videos, namely the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. In 2020, Drake released a music video for ‘Laugh Now, Cry Later’, in which he caused a splash on social media by featuring two Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolets

BMW also finds itself among the Top 5, with 347 cars featured in Hip-Hop videos. In 2021, 50 Cent’s ‘Part of the Game’ included a yellow E31 8 Series, alongside BMW E30s and E36 3 Series.
