Global stardom Lizzo has had enough of the world’s negativity towards plus-size women. She is destined to show the world how amazing big girls really are. With her new reality/documentary series Watch Out For The Big Grrrls she pushes 13 women to become the best dancers they can be through a plethora of activities from choreography, self-love and reflection exercises,  photoshoots, music video shoots, team bonding exercises, and so much more. The seven-episode series takes you through the eyes of Lizzo and what it takes to be a Big Grrrl dancer.

This series is a competition where thirteen plus-size dancers go head to head for a chance to tour and perform with Lizzo and her team. Let’s not forget some amazing people featured on the show like three-time MTV VMA-nominated choreographer Tanisha Scott, HBCU Langston University Marching Pride, Founder of BLAQ Girl Magic Dance Company Deja Joelle, and so many more.

Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls premieres on Prime Video on March 25th! Scroll down to watch the official trailer.

Review

After viewing Watch out for the Big Grrrls I was inspired. Although this was a competition series, the events created throughout the series were entertaining and a little emotional to watch. Lizzo has faced many haters and has gotten a lot of backlash for being herself and loving who she is. While searching for her new group of girls to join her team, she wanted them to experience the love of being themselves and comfortable and confident in their own skin.

(L-R) The hopeful future Big Grrrls performing their choreography for Lizzo: Sydney Bell, Charity Holloway, Jayla Sullivan, Asia Banks, Arianna Davis, Jasmine Morrison, Kiara Mooring, Moesha Perez, Ashley Williams, and Isabel Jones.

Lizzo puts them through a range of events that made them confident in dancing and in themselves. From the start of the show to the end of the show Lizzo encouraged every woman out there to open their mind, open their heart, and give it their best shot. From hosting a mixer to performing with a live HBCU band to practicing sensual dances to photoshoots, to music videos, and more Lizzo and her team did everything in their power to care, respect, and encourage each woman on the show.

I loved the diversity of women she added to the show. Each woman had their own stories of being plus-size and why they started dancing. During the show, the women opened up about the struggles of being a Black woman, being dark skin, having alopecia, being a plus-size woman, being a Korean plus-size woman, a trans plus woman, being uncomfortable in their skin, not feeling beautiful, and so much more.

My favorite episode is episode 4 Naked. This episode was the most moving because the ladies were brought out of their comfort zone and forced into a new style of dance. Through the art of sensuality, contemporary, and modern dance they practiced teamwork, dancing in small spaces, and stepping out of their comfort zone with a creative routine using mirrors. The mirrors represented negative thoughts about themselves. I loved the creative direction Lizzo and her team went with when breaking the mirrors during the routine. It was powerful and moving.

In conclusion, this show is made for anyone and everyone, not just plus-size women. If you have doubt in yourself, need help with self-love or confidence, or just need help with being different, this series is worth watching. I rate Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls 4.5 Stars
