Challenging well-liked 20-year incumbent Archie Smith, Thompson and her team, knew they were in for a fight. But with an astounding 65.33% of the votes and no challenger on the November ballot, Thompson is the presumptive winner. Thompson will be the first African American elected to this position.

All I can say is thank you. Thank you for your support, your time, your prayers, and your vote. Over the last 6 months, I have connected with friends, neighbors, and community leaders. You have shared with me your stories, your concerns, and your expectations. I look forward to being a part of the much-needed change in our courts and our community. Now the hard work begins,” said Thompson.

As Clerk of Superior Court, Thompson will:

  •       Focus on decreasing land loss in historically underrepresented communities
  •       Reassess outdated methods to enhance the effectiveness of court operation
  •       Exemplify fairness and build confidence in the judiciary
  •       Ensure equal access to the court system and its resources

I say we won because what was just accomplished was truly a collective effort!  The support for this campaign’s mission to Pursue Greater Justice for the citizens of Durham was more than I can ever imagine!  We knew from the beginning that this was a monumental task!  We didn’t faint!  We rolled up our sleeves and got to work. Everyone who committed to this mission understood what was at stake.  I am forever grateful for the courageous step you all have taken,” Jones said.

He went on to say, “Now that We have won! What do we do now?  We continue to pursue Greater Justice by never being satisfied with the Status Quo!  When we see injustice, we won’t remain silent!  We will speak loudly!  We will continue to seek after what is right!

As District Court Judge, Kevin will build coalitions with Durham residents to fight for:

  •       Respect
  •       Rehabilitation
  •       Redemption
