Bulls closeout Knights series finale with commanding win

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Bulls defeated the Charlotte Knights 4-2 on Sunday evening to close out their season series in Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The piping hot Bulls have now won 12 of their last 15 and sit two games above .500 at 25-23 for the first time this season. A huge reason for their recent success is the consistency of the bullpen.

Bulls LHP Josh Fleming received his fourth win of the season (4-0) after striking out four batters and pitching 58 strikes while only giving away two runs. Knights batters struggled getting home all night due to great plays being made by the Durham infielders.

The match was slow early on as both teams suffered near three and outs, struggling to get on base. Then at the top of the third, Charlotte second baseman Yolbert Sanchez forced a ground out at 1st which brought in Zach Remillard for the first run of the game.

The Bulls completely would change the game around in the very next inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Durham scored all four of their runs which changed the outcome of the game entirely. Bulls third baseman Tristan Gray’s line drive to right field brought in two runs while wild pitches from Knights pitcher Brody Koerner brought in another two scores. Koerner’s season record went to 0-4 due to this span of errors.

Charlotte would keep the door open with another RBI from Yolbert Sanchez but nothing after that would be enough for the Knights to pose a comeback. Bulls closer Shawn Armstrong earned his second save of the year after closing out the final two innings.

Durham kick starts a new series against the Nashville Sounds at home on Monday evening at 5:05 pm in Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
