Bats Take Series Finale Against the Bulls

DURHAM, NC- The Louisville Bats take the last game of this week’s series against the Durham Bulls, 5-4, in a back-and-forth battle at DBAP.

Though the Bats were able to pull off the win in tonight’s matchup, the Bulls remained victorious by taking the series 4-2.

After a week of falling behind, the Bats were the first to put themselves on the board in tonight’s matchup. Cristian Santana hit a homer to right field off a fly ball to make the score 1-0. Donovan Solano added another home run in the top of the fourth, for the Bats’ second run of the game. The momentum continued with a single by Moran followed by a single to center field by Dawson but were retired once Tenerowicz struck out swinging.

The uniforms for the Durham Bulls were a bit different than what the crowd is used to. In honor of Juneteenth and the Bull City’s Negro League, the team wore jerseys inspired by the Durham Black Sox.

The Bulls made their appearance known in the fifth inning with a three-run streak to take the lead 3-1. Tristan Gray started the lineup with a base by ball and was able to advance to second off a single to right field by Jordan Qsar. Xavier Edwards followed with a single to right field resulting in an RBI to give the Bulls their first run of the night. Qsar added another run to the board with assistance from Luke Raley hitting a right-field single. Ryan Boldt nailed a double on a ground ball for Edwards to hit home plate to finish out the inning.

 In an effort to take the lead back, Querecuto singled to center field to start the sixth inning off for Louisville. Solano then doubled on a fly ball to advance Querecuto to third, putting the Bats in scoring position. Querecuto was able to score off a wild pitch made by the Bull’s Kevin Hurgent, putting the game tied at 3-3.

The tie didn’t last long with the Bulls answering with a home run to left-center field by James Haley to put Durham back up 4-3.

After starting the seventh off with two flyouts for the Bats, Chuckie Robinson reached first base on a base by balls. Lorenzo Cedrola hit a double out to right field resulting in an RBI for Robinson to put up a run for Louisville making the game 4-4. Cedrola advanced to home plate off a passed ball by catcher Ford Proctor to give the Bats a one-run lead.

Right-hander, Fernando Cruz, closed the night out as pitcher for Louisville to keep the Bulls from coming back to take the win. Cruz allowed one hit, zero runs, and finished with four strikeouts to make the final score 5-4.

The Bulls travel to Jacksonville for their next series which starts on Tuesday, June 21 at 7 P.M. against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
