Bulls Take The Win in Ninth Inning Run

DURHAM, NC- The Durham Bulls defeats the Louisville Bats, 4-3, in a bottom of the ninth run to take the first game of the six-game series at DBAP.

After losing the series 4-2 against the Memphis Redbirds, the Bulls hope to come back to redeem themselves with a series win over the Bats.

The first pitch of the night resulted in a home run to center field by the Bats’, Jose Barrero, to start the game off on a high note. Next up to the plate was Donovan Solano who struck out while Schrock and Santana both grounded out to keep the top of the first short. The Bulls answered with a triple on a line drive to right field by Miles Mastrobuoni, leading to a run off a sacrifice fly to end the first inning tied at 1-1.

Louisville’s, Robbie Tenerowicz, singled to left field on a line drive in the top of the third. Chuckie Robinson then hit a double to put the Bats in scoring position. Solano singled on a ground ball for Robinson to advance to third and Tenerowicz to put up another run, making the score 2-1. The Bats retired with runners on second and third base.

Stuart Fairchild added another home run to the night for Louisville, knocking one out to left-center field giving the Bats a two-run lead in the fourth.

Things started to turn around in the fifth inning for the Bulls with a single to center field and a base steal by Jim Haley to position himself on second base. Mastrobuoni earned a walk followed by a reach on a fielding error by Aranda to put the bases loaded. Josh Lowe sealed two runs for Durham with a double out to left field sending Haley and Mastrobuoni to home plate to tie the game 3-3.

Left-hander Buck Farmer was a key player for the Bats in the effort put in to keep the Bulls from scoring. Farmer finished his game appearance with five strikeouts, one hit, and no runs.

After a scoreless 3 innings from both teams, the Bulls closed out the game in the bottom of the ninth.

Durham’s Tristan Gray started the lineup with a single out to right field followed by a single by Jordan Qsar. The bases were then loaded after Mastrobuoni earned another walk to first, advancing the runners. In an attempt to score, Gray got out at home plate after a ground out by Aranda. Qsar was able to advance to third off the play and then to home plate to secure the win for the Bulls, 4-3.

The Durham Bulls and Louisville Bats matchup continues for game two of the series on June 15 starting at 6:35 P.M.
