CHARLOTTE, NC – NC MedAssist Board of Directors today (June 27) announces the appointment of Brenda Vass as the organization’s new CEO & Executive Director. Vass has served as Interim CEO for NC MedAssist since Lori Giang announced her retirement in October 2021.

Brenda Vass, former Chief Development Officer, came to NC MedAssist with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the area of fundraising. Her authenticity and strength in strategic guidance have proven to be a major asset in her role — helping to increase private funding fivefold times with NC MedAssist. She has been instrumental in helping to create a philanthropic culture – highlighting the strengths of individuals, leading with a mission, and focusing on the organization’s competitive advantage.

Before joining NC MedAssist in October 2014, Vass served for national and local organizations like MDA, National MS Society, American Heart Association, and Arts & Science Council. She committed to a nonprofit career more than 20 years ago because it gave her purpose to show others how much they mattered to the human experience. During that time, she has created space and increased market share for the organizations she served and continues to have an unwavering passion and excitement for making a bigger impact on the lives of those in need.

Vass is a graduate of Francis Marion University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications with a minor in Sociology. She has continued learning through transformative experiences like Blue Cross Blue Shield Leadership Academy, Thunderbird School of Global Management AMEX Leadership Academy, and the Harvard Business School Club of Charlotte Management Development Program.

Patrick Easterling, NC MedAssist Board Chair, stated, “We are very excited to have Brenda lead NC MedAssist. Her strong leadership abilities and community ties will ensure that uninsured NC residents with low income, do not have to face the choice between food and medicine.”

“It is an absolute honor to be selected to serve as the CEO of NC MedAssist!,” said Vass.  ‘The faith and confidence in my leadership from the Board of Directors is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to continuing the work with each of them as well as those committed individuals that care enough to invest time, talent or treasure in pursuit of medication access to the North Carolinians that need us.

Thank you sincerely to all of you that have supported, encouraged, and fed into me during this process – especially the NC MedAssist Board, Leadership Team & Staff! I could not ask for a better group of people to serve alongside.”
