Hillside High School’s Dr. William T. Logan Named DPS Principal of the Year

DURHAM, NC – Dr. William T. Logan, transformational leader of the historic Hillside High School, has been named the Durham Public Schools 2023 Principal of the Year.  An educator with 25 years in the field, Logan has led the school as its instructional leader for a decade.  He has served in the administration realm for 19 of those years, including having served as the school’s assistant principal. This is Dr. Logan’s second time as DPS Principal of the Year (2014), among a litany of other professional achievements.

“Dr. Logan is a visionary leader who is seeing his goals to fruition. Under his leadership, Hillside was a 2020 Magnet School of Distinction, and he continues to improve outcomes for his students innovatively and resourcefully. He is a champion-maker, and he champions all students,” said Dr. Pascal Mubenga, DPS Superintendent.

Logan’s leadership highlights include more than $100 million in scholarship offers to students; recognition by the U.S. Department of Education as a model transformational school; the creation of an on-campus bank to support financial literacy; a 90 percent promotion rate among Freshman Academy students; increased enrollment in International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses; an AVID School of Distinction recognition; and a Congressional district art award.
