Eagles Soar Big Over St. Andrew’s

DURHAM, NC – The outstanding North Carolina Central University Eagles Men’s Basketball Team (5-4) gave their students something to be proud about before they start their final exams for the semester.

They did that by winning BIG over the St. Andrews Knights from Laurinburg, NC, by the score of 127-40 – thanks to 18 points from Junior Guard Ja’Darius Harris and a double-double from Senior Forward Cameron Butler – who scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Plus, Butler completed the game making all six of his field goal attempts.

With this mark, the Eagles’ broke a record for most points scored – when they previously scored 123 in a win against Warren Wilson on Sunday, November 18th, 2018. They also broke their largest margin of victory by besting their mark of 85 points in a 119-34 win over the Saint Augustine’s Falcons on Saturday, February 19th, 1944. Due to this, every player on the NCCU squad scored at least once.

Raleigh native Kris Monroe was exemplary in the three-point range, where he scored four of 13 of his points behind the arc.

For the Knights, Junior Center Allan Taylor (Lillington, NC) led the way with 12 points. Also, for St. Andrew’s, Sophomore Forward Sincere Clark (Transfer from Shaw – Richmond, VA) finished the game with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

NCCU opened up the game, thanks to a basket from Graduate Student Brendan Medley-Bacon, with Justin Wright dishing out the assist for a 2-0 lead at 19:45. Then, St. Andrew’s took a 6-0 run thanks to baskets from Sophomore Power Forward Ameil Malone (Raleigh) and Sophomore Guard Brodie Clark (Laurinburg, NC). Then, the Eagles dominated the game so much, that they held a 63-21 halftime lead, as Senior Guard Marque Maltsby (Raleigh, NC) performed a dunk with five seconds left.

The Eagles continued their pounding of the Knights during the remaining of the game, as they hit the century mark at 8:06 remaining when Senior Cameron Butler (Chicago, IL) dunked it and sent the 1,073 attendees at the McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium in a frenzy.

The Eagles will travel to Milwaukee, WI to face the Marquette Golden Eagles at the Fiserv Forum – home of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks. The game will be at 8:30 EST on FOX Sports 1. North Carolina Central doesn’t return home until Tuesday, December 20th against Citadel for a 7PM matchup.
