Duke Loses Second Straight On The Road To Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, VA — 24 points from Virginia Tech forward Grant Basile led the Hokies to a narrow 78-75 victory over Duke on Monday night.

Virginia Tech (12-8, 2-7 ACC) improves to 2-7 in ACC play in the win and snaps a seven-game losing streak. The Blue Devils have now lost three of their last four games on the road.

Duke (14-6, 5-4 ACC) lost freshman forward Dariq Whitehead to a lower leg injury in this game after scoring 10 points in the first half. Whitehead left the game after taking an awkward fall going for a loose ball and did not return.

Virginia Tech received huge scoring efforts from players other than Basile as two other Hokies scored in double figures. Sean Pedulla and Hunter Cattoor combined for 31 points and eight threes between each other as the duo torched Duke’s zone coverage all night.

Duke freshman forward Kyle Filipowski had a typical dominant night as he went for 29 points and 10 rebounds while draining four threes. Tyrese Proctor was the only double-digit scorer for the Blue Devils other than Whitehead and Filipowski, who had 10 points on just 4-of-12 shooting.

Duke looks to bounce back on Saturday as they take on ACC foe Georgia Tech at 3 PM on ACC Network.
