The Chapel Hill Black Film Festival Coming to Varsity Theatre

CHAPEL HILL – Argyle Rebel Films will present The Chapel Hill Black Film Festival 2 on February 10-11, 2023, at the Varsity Theatre in Chapel Hill. This two-day event is home to the Future of North Carolina Filmmaking. The opening night boasts an All-Star lineup with the premiere of Teddy and Jailyn’s new film, a one-of-a-kind Q&A with Writer-Director Evan Kidd and his film “Panda Bear It” and live performances by Jones Michael, Vinnie-Dangerous, and Kamus Leonard. The evening will feature an original score by award-winning composer Michael D. Jones, Sr.

Argyle Rebel Films has also announced that current UNC-Chapel Hill Student Body President, Taliajah “Teddy” Vann, and her partner Jailyn Neville are the recipients of the 2023 Carolina Black Pioneer Scholarship. “We are beyond excited to announce these two as the 2023 Carolina Black Pioneer scholars,” said Michael Washington, Argyle Rebel Films CEO and Chapel Hill Black Film Festival Chair. “Their vision for the future of North Carolina filmmaking is dynamic. They are smart, prolific, talented… we are so thrilled to share their work.”

The Carolina Black Pioneers Scholarship is given to a student whose filmmaking prowess embodies the spirit of the first Black students at UNC Chapel Hill. In addition to a financial prize, the recipient creates and premieres a film for the annual Chapel Hill Black Film Festival.
