North Carolina Central’s Medley-Bacon and Monroe Earn MEAC Weekly Honors
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central graduate student center Brendan Medley-Bacon and senior forward Kris Monroe were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player and Co-Player of the week the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Medley-Bacon is the second Eagle to claim conference defensive player of the week. The Baltimore, Maryland native had impressive performances on both ends of the floor.
First, against Morgan State on Saturday, he posted 17 points, eight rebounds, and swatted six shots. In the following game against Coppin State on Monday he finished with 17 points, five boards, and two blocks.
In total Medley-Bacon averaged 17 points while shooting 66% (12-18) from the field, 6.5 rebounds, and four blocks to help NCCU win back-to-back games.
Monroe was named Co-Player of the week alongside Delaware State’s O’Koye Parker. Monroe provided the Eagles with efficient scoring and domination on the glass to help the unit.
The Raleigh native netted 14 points including two triples and corralled nine rebounds against MSU. He followed that performance with a blazing start scoring 22 of his career-high 25 points and eight of his 16 rebounds in the first half to help the maroon and gray build and hold a considerable advantage.
In the two wins, Monroe averaged 19 points while shooting 48% from the field (13-27) and 37.5% (6-16) from beyond the arc. Additionally, he averaged 12.5 rebounds to help the Eagles dominate the glass.
Up next, North Carolina Central (12-11, 5-4 MEAC) will travel north to battle Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, Feb. 18, and Monday, Feb. 20, respectively.
