CHAPEL HILL, NC – Christopher Everett, a sophomore public policy major at UNC-Chapel Hill, was elected to serve as the 2023-24 Student Body President on Feb. 22. He is the third consecutive Black Student Body President.

“Still don’t have the words. Thank you, Carolina. God is so good,” Everett posted on his Twitter after he won the election.

Taliajah “Teddy” Van, senior film studies and political science double major at UNC who served as the 2022-23 Student Body President, sent her congratulations on Twitter.

“How amazing are three Black Student Body Presidents back to back to back, this month? Enormous congratulations to @Cmaneverett on this and all the greatness to come!” she wrote.

According to Everett’s profile in The Daily Tar Heel, UNC’s student newspaper, he wants to create an inclusive environment on campus where students can “feel seen, heard and respected in their identities.” His slogan is “Carolina for Everyone.”

During his freshman year, Everett served as executive assistant to 2020-21 Student Body President Reeves Moseley, who was succeeded by Lamar Richards, the first Black Student Body President in the row.

Everett also served as the financial committee chair for Undergraduate Senator. During his summers, he interned at the North Carolina General Assembly and the Office of Governor Roy Cooper.

He also spent more than a year at UNC Student Government Executive Branch, where he served as Co-Chair of the Commission on Campus Equality & Student Equity and Deputy Chief of Staff. Everett is currently interning at Brady, a lobbying organization based in Washington D.C.
