NCCU WBB & MBB Win Against Howard On Senior Night

DURHAM, N.C. – Kimeira Burks scores 16 points to lead North Carolina Central to a 55-51 victory over Howard University (HU) on Senior Night in McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday (Feb. 25)

NCCU trailed the majority of the game until a double technical foul situation and an ejection for Howard fueled an Eagle comeback. 

Howard’s Krislyn Marsh and NCCU Tippy Robertson got into a heated scuffle. HU player Aziah Hudson got disqualified. Referees called double technical fouls on Tippy Robertson and Nyla Cooper.  Destiny Howell put Kimeira Burks on the line for three shots where she went 3-3 on free throws.

NCCU (12-15, 6-6 MEAC) was led by Kimeria  Burks, who finished with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal. The Eagles also had big contributions from Kira Lowery, she had 13 points and four assists. Aniya Finger had 17 rebounds and eight points. 

Howard (13-2, 9-3 MEAC) was led by Destiny Howell, who finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, and an assist.

NCCU WBB returns home on Monday to face Norfolk State at 5 pm.

Justin Wright scored 24 to give North Carolina Central MBB a 68-60 win over Howard on Senior Night.

The game came down to a battle of offensive rebounds, Howard had 41 total rebounds while N.C. Central had 40. What set the Eagles apart was their blocks and second-chance points. Brendan Medley-Bacon had a breakout game with eight blocks and twelve points. He set a career-high of eight blocks tonight. He also tied Adrian McKinnon in most blocks in a single game in NCCU history. Howard was closing a 15-point gap late in the second half but HU went scoreless on their last six possessions. Medley-Bacon had three blocks in the last three minutes of the game.

NCCU (15-11, 8-4 MEAC) was led by Justin Wright, who finished with 24 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal. The Eagles also had big contributions from Brendan Medley-Bacon and Marque Maultsby. Medley-Bacon finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and eight blocks. Maultsby had four points and seven rebounds. NCCU’s seniors had a combined 34 points in this game. Nicholas Fennell had eight points, Eric Boone had five points, and  Cameron Butler had three points.

Howard (17-12, 9-3 MEAC) was led by Shy Odom, who finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 

NCCU MBB returns home on Monday to face Norfolk State at 7:30 pm.
