Duke MBB Wins Fifth In A Row, Go Undefeated At Home In Win Over NC State
DURHAM, NC — Duke team captain Jeremy Roach scored 20 points leading the Blue Devils to their fifth straight in a 71-67 action-packed win over NC State on Tuesday (Feb. 28) night.
With the win, Duke finishes the year undefeated at home for the first time since the 2013-14 season. This becomes the 19th season that the Blue Devils have ended the year undefeated at home.
The last time these two teams squared off was back on January 4th when the Wolfpack got a 24-point win over Duke behind 24 points from star guard Terquavion Smith. Tonight, Smith didn’t score in double figures for just the second time this season, finishing with just 8 points.
Freshman forward Kyle Filipowski put in 11 points and 14 rebounds, recording his 13th double-double on the season. Filipowski currently leads all NCAA freshmen in double-doubles. His frontcourt mate Dereck Lively II also had double-digit rebounds as he finished with 12 along with 2 blocks.
Wolfpack guard Jarkel Joiner led the way for NC State with 26 points, knocking down six three-pointers in the process. Joiner made some clutch shots down the stretch to bring the game within three with less than 30 seconds to go, but two pairs of free throws from Tyrese Proctor sealed the game for the Blue Devils.
Duke looks to extend their win streak to six on Saturday against long-time rival North Carolina in their final game of the regular season. The Tar Heels and Blue Devils tip off at 6:30 PM ET in Dean E. Smith Center on ESPN.
