UNC Moves on to Quarterfinals to Face Duke in the ACC WBB Tournament

Greensboro, N.C. – UNC-Chapel Hill found holes in the tough Clemson Tigers’ defense to get the win in the Greensboro Coliseum for the ACC WBB Tournament.

As a team, UNC opened the game 3 of 4 and Deja Kelly sunk a couple of threes. Kennedy Todd-Willians caught a flame after hitting her first three of the game over a double-team, with one of the defenders being Hannah Hank. An early UNC Chapel Hill bench violation technical foul was the start of foul trouble for Duke. Clemson was in the bonus + in the last minutes of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Deja Kelly and Kennedy Todd-Williams were shooting threes from their usual spots but they were not falling.

In the second half, the Tigers stepped up their defense which started with calling out UNC’s screens and doubling the Tarheel’s perimeter shooters. As Clemson forced UNC into bad shot selections they were racking up points to tie the game. CU would never lead in the second half because they were unable to score on transition points. Clemson was outscored 66-55 with a minute and fourteen seconds left in the game. Hannah Hank was limited to two points tonight as Clemson fell 68-58 to the Tar Heels.

Alyssa Ustby had 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists tonight for the Tar Heels. Three other Tar Heels had double-digit scores tonight. Deja Kelly had 14 points in this game. Eva Hodgson had 13 points and four assists while Kennedy Todd-Williams had 12 points and four rebounds.

Amari Robinson recorded 27 points, five rebounds, and a block for the Tigers.

After catching up with UNC guard Kennedy Todd-Williams about how to attack Duke she said that the plan is to get defensive stops and play as one unit. UNC and Duke are no strangers to each other, stay tuned for updates on how these two teams match up against each other in the ACC tournament!
