Raleigh-Wake 911 Emergency Communications Center Receives Top Honors

RALEIGH – This year the NC Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) has awarded the Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center as the communication center of the year. The center is recognized for its collaboration with other agencies, creating an environment of continuous learning and stewardship, and a place that empowers staff through training. The award will be presented on Wednesday, May 3 at the NC Public Safety Communications Conference in Wilmington. 

Emergency Communications Director Dominick Nutter said, “I salute my team’s unwavering commitment to outstanding personal performance. Our achievements are shaped by the strength of the foundations we set. This award recognizes the daily efforts of each member of our department to make the City of Raleigh a safe place to live.”

The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center is committed to saving lives, protecting property, assisting the public in their time of need, and ensuring the safety of first responders through prompt, impartial, and professional call-taking, dispatch, technical and support services, to maintain a safe environment for all who live, work or visit Raleigh and Wake County.

The center provides dispatching and centralized communications for four EMS agencies, eight law enforcement agencies, and 20 fire departments, serving more than one million residents in an area of 860 miles. The 9-1-1 Center employs a highly trained staff using the latest in technology in order to maintain our high commitment to public safety. 

The NENA serves its members and the greater public safety community as the only professional organization focused on 9-1-1 policy, technology, operations, and education issues. With more than 16,000 members in 52 chapters across the United States and around the globe, NENA promotes the implementation and awareness of 9-1-1 and international three-digit emergency communications systems.
