Ebonettes  Service Club  Awards  Scholarships To Seven Area High School Seniors

DURHAM, NC – The Ebonettes Service Club, Inc. of Durham awarded the 2023  “R. Marjorie Monroe Thorpe Scholarships”  to seven high school seniors at its recent scholarship reception held at Covenant Presbyterian Church.  The scholarship is named in memory of the late Ebonette Founder, Mrs. Marjorie Monroe Thorpe, who was a High School Counselor in the Durham Public Schools.   This year, each awardee received a $1,000 scholarship.   

The 2023 Ebonettes Service Club. Inc. scholarship recipients, parents, and guests enjoyed a very special “Graduation Inspiration” address by Attorney A. Cooper-Chester of Durham. The Ebonettes Service Club, Inc. is a 501( c )3 organization founded in 1972.   Over the past fifty-plus years, the club has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships to Durham area high school students. Esther Cooper is the Scholarship Committee Chairperson. Tania Green-Clark is President of the Ebonettes Service Club, Inc.
