NCCU Holds Rival NC A&T Scoreless In Second Half For First Win In Greensboro Since 2015
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior running back Latrell Collier and senior quarterback Davius Richard combined for 190 yards and four touchdowns on the ground as the 18th-ranked Eagles held North Carolina A&T State University scoreless in the second half for a 30-16 victory inside a packed Truist Stadium.
NCCU (2-0) amassed 218 rushing yards, with Collier and Richard tallying 95 yards and two touchdowns each. Collier added 45 receiving yards on three catches, and Richard posted 127 passing yards, connecting on 15 of 23 tosses.
The Eagles’ defense, holding the Aggies scoreless in the second half, limited A&T to 207 yards of total offense, including just 51 yards through the air. Sophomore cornerback Jason Chambers topped NCCU with six solo tackles, while sophomore linebacker Jayden Flaker recorded four solo takedowns, including a strip sack and the fumble recovery to set up a field goal. Defensive end Kendrick DuJour posted two stops for a loss with a sack, and fellow lineman Jaden Taylor chipped in three tackles with a sack.
On special teams, senior Adrian Olivo converted a 35-yard field goal and four extra-point kicks. NCCU punter Juan Velarde averaged 40 yards per boot, placing four punts inside the 20-yard line, including two inside the 5-yard line.
Saturday’s triumph is the first time NCCU left Greensboro celebrating since 2015.
