Duke Basketball Looks to Lean on Versatility in 2023-24

DURHAM, NC – On September 29, the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team held a media day for the local and national press to provide updates on what the 2023-24 team is going to look like.

Head coach Jon Scheyer provides an update on how he feels about the team currently, what was learned from the season-ending loss to Tennessee, why it is important to commit to getting better, and how players have grown from year one to year two.

Coach Scheyer also mentioned that the Blue Devils have selected captains for the team. This year’s captains are Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor, and Ryan Young.

Kyle Filipowski discusses what his offseason was like coming off of hip surgery and what his role will look like now with no Dereck Lively II (NBA).

Jeremy Roach speaks on what is going to be the identity of this team moving forward and what motivates him heading into year four.

Tyrese Proctor on the versatility of the Blue Devils offense and what he learned from last year that will help him this upcoming season.

Jared McCain on what it’s like playing with other freshmen and what to expect from this year’s team.

Sean Strickland on the team’s versatility and the possibility of playing center in a small-ball lineup.

After Countdown to Craziness on October 20, the Duke Blue Devils officially open the season on Monday, November 6, 2023, as the Blue Devils host Dartmouth in the historic Cameron Indoor Stadium at 9 pm EST.
