N.C. Triangle Alphas Raise $30,000 At Golf Tournament Fundraiser

RALEIGH, N.C. — The N.C. Triangle Alphas’ (NCTA) second annual golf fundraising event attracted golfers from across several states to financially support local African American and African Diasporic high school graduates in pursuit of higher learning and other initiatives.

Over 90 golfers attended the Aug. 28, 2023, event at River Ridge Golf Club. Sponsors that helped NCTA raise over $30,000 include the following:  Haywood Funeral Home, Lenovo, Samet, The Banks Law Firm, F7 Development, and a host of others.

“The men of Alpha are pleased with the success that we have experienced with our tournament fundraiser these first two years,” said Phi Lambda Chapter representative Percy Taylor.  We look forward to the continued support of our dedicated sponsors as we expand and grow the event even more.”

There were first-, second-, and third-place trophies for both the Men’s and Women’s teams and first- and second-place trophies for mixed teams.  One golfer was awarded a priceless moment—making a “hole in one.”

A golf clinic was added this year.  It was conducted by Winston Holloway, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and a golf pro at Hedingham Golf Club. There were close to 20 individuals of varying skill levels who participated.

“As this event was close to being sold out a few weeks before the event date, I knew that it was going to be another great event,” said Beta Theta Lambda Chapter representative Rodney Shepard. “We cannot thank our sponsors enough for believing again in this cause.”
