Blacktoberfest Beer Fest Is Back In Durham For The Fourth Year; BBQ Competition Added

DURHAM, NC – On Oct. 14, Blacktoberfest is back for its fourth year in Durham at Garland Court in East Durham (491 South Driver St.). This year, Blacktoberfest Beer Fest has merged with Bull City BBQ to bring a new four-category BBQ competition. Like years before, the festival has plenty of music, entertainment, vendors, and beer. 

The festival will again feature a range of activities and experiences that highlight the rich and diverse culture of Black-owned businesses. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample some of the best craft beers and BBQs in the country while enjoying live music, engaging in interactive activities, and learning from industry experts.

This year, there will be 20 Black-owned breweries at Blacktoberfest and four wine and spirit brands. There will be four competition categories for this year’s BBQ competition: Chicken, Pulled Pork, Ribs, and Brisket. The following cash prizes will be awarded in each category:

1st Place – $500 + Trophy

2nd Place – $250

3rd Place – $100

People’s Choice AwardPulled Pork – $500

Grand Champion – $1,000

The festival will start in Durham and then move to St. Louis on Oct. 28. 

Along with shining a light on Black-owned businesses, Blacktoberfest also helps give back to the Triangle with donations. Blacktoberfest is a proud sponsor of Shining Light In Darkness, or SLID, whose goal is to help sexual assault and domestic abuse victims.
