Foster Leads Duke MBB Past Michigan State
CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 9 Duke men’s basketball team defeated No. 18 Michigan State, 74-65, in the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday evening.
The Blue Devils (2-1) were led by freshman Caleb Foster, who scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, while shooting 4-of-5 from behind the ark.
Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchell, and Tyrese Proctor joined Foster in double-figures, finishing with 15, 13 and 13 respectively.
The win over the Spartans moves the Blue Devils to 4-1 in the Champions Classic against Michigan State and 8-5 all-time in the event.
“I just thought for our team, like, for our guys, we stepped up in a big way. We want to play this schedule. You play Arizona, Michigan State, two of your first three games. Let’s see where we’re at. I’ve learned more about this team in the first three games than maybe any team I’ve been with, as an assistant coach, as a head coach, obviously in the one year, and to respond that quickly in a couple days, I think says a lot about their character.” — head coach Jon Scheyer.
Duke returns to action on Friday, November 17 when they host Bucknell in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 6pm.
