Taylor, Wolfpack Roll Past UMES in Heritage Game
RALEIGH, N.C. – Guard Jayden Taylor scored 21 points to lead the North Carolina State Wolfpack to a 93-61 victory over the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore Hawks at the Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack are 25-2 at the Reynolds Coliseum since ‘99-00 season.
With the win, NC State improves to 6-2. Maryland Eastern falls to 2-6 with the loss.
NC State’s offense clicked early, scoring first. Guard Jayden Taylor went on a streak scoring seven of the first nine points to get the Wolfpack going. UMES continued to fight back, keeping their deficit within 10 points approaching the mid-first quarter.
Both teams were consistent in finishing the first half. However, Guard LJ Thomas made a three-pointer to help NC State extend its lead over the Hawks and close out the half 37-25.
Forward Troy Hupstead led the Hawks at the break with nine points and four rebounds. Forward Diarra Mohamed led the Wolfpack with seven points and three rebounds.
UMES showed more aggression in the second half. NC State was able to match that aggression and continue to capitalize, increasing the lead to 15 with 13:30 remaining.
Both teams went back and forth on field goals. Forward Troy Hupstead shot for three to close the Hawks deficit to 10, bringing the score to 46-56 with 10:44 remaining. The pace began to pick up as the Wolfpack went on more scoring streaks.
Guard MJ Rice was good for a dunk to help NC State seal the deal and take the victory over the Hawks, 93-61.
The Wolfpack were led by guard Jayden Taylor who finished the game with 21 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Forward DJ Burns Jr followed with 15 points and five rebounds. Guard Casey Morsell added 12 points and five rebounds.
The Hawks were led by forward Troy Hupstead who finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Guard Chace Davis followed with 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
NC State struggled with free throws against the Hawks, only making 16% (15) of them. Despite free throw trouble guard Jayden Taylor led the Wolfpack today putting up 21 points, contributing to the 54 points scored in the second half.
