NCCU Guard Fred Cleveland Earns 3rd MEAC Player of the Week Nod

NORFOLK, Va. – Senior Fred Cleveland Jr. of the North Carolina Central University men’s basketball team was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Wednesday.

Cleveland (Chicago, Ill.) previously earned the award during non-conference play on Dec. 20 and after the first week of MEAC action on Jan. 10. No other player has garnered the award three times this season.

During the last two regular season road games, Cleveland averaged 20 points, 10.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals with NCCU winning at Coppin State University and falling to Morgan State University.

The victory at Coppin State on March 2 was historic for Cleveland as he climbed the record books with 15 assists in one game, tying a Division I school record. In the following game at Morgan State, Cleveland scored a team-high 27 points and passed for six assists.

NCCU will host South Carolina State University on Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. to close out the regular season.
