Raleigh Police Arrest 16-Year-Old In Connection to Shooting Death of 13-Year-Old Girl

RALEIGH – The Raleigh Police Department has made an arrest in the death investigation of a 13-year-old female. A 16-year-old juvenile has been charged with murder on a petition and taken into custody on Wednesday (April 24).

At approximately 2:36 AM on Monday (April 22), the Raleigh Police responded to a reported person shot in the North Hills Apartments near Crabtree Valley Mall. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased 13-year-old female with injuries consistent with a gunshot. She has been identified as Mykia Daniel.

A family advocate told ABC11 Mykia did not live at North Hills Apartments but lived with her family in another part of town. It was unclear why she was there.

Family and friends will hold a balloon release at Chavis Community Center in honor of Mykia on Saturday, April 27.

Police have not released the 16-year-old’s identity.

Additional information will be released at the appropriate time.
