Four 2025 White Breakfast honorees will be recognized by the Durham Bennett College Alumnae Chapter for excellence in education, service, and community leadership.

Durham Bennett College Alumnae to Honor Local Leaders at 35th Annual White Breakfast

DURHAM, NC – The Bennett College Alumnae Chapter of Durham will host its Thirty-Fifth Annual White Breakfast Scholarship Fundraiser on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at the DoubleTree Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle Park Hotel, located at 4810 Page Creek Lane.

This cherished tradition celebrates education, empowerment, and sisterhood, as the chapter honors local community leaders with the Women of Vision of Excellence Awards and recognizes one outstanding alumna with the Phenomenal Woman Award.

Celebrating Women of Vision and Impact

This year’s honorees exemplify the spirit of Bennett College’s mission — leadership, service, and excellence:

  • Community Service & Education Award: Mrs. Rutha Johnson Brooks ’57, Retired Orange County Educator
  • Health and Community Services Award: Dr. Marva Mizell Price, Emeritus Nursing Faculty and Nurse Practitioner
  • Friend of Bennett Award: Ms. Bonitta Best, Managing Editor, The Triangle Tribune
  • Phenomenal Bennett College Alumna of Durham Award: Mrs. Sandra Sanders Meachem ’70, Retired Program Coordinator, Durham Public Schools, and Owner/Operator, Walter Sanders Funeral Home, Inc.

Each honoree will be recognized for their exceptional contributions to their fields and to the greater Durham community.

Empowering Future Generations

Proceeds from the annual White Breakfast support Bennett College scholarships, helping young women continue the legacy of academic excellence and leadership at one of the nation’s premier Historically Black Colleges for women.

“Each year, the White Breakfast reminds us that education changes lives,” said a chapter representative. “Through this fundraiser, we continue Bennett’s proud tradition of preparing women to lead, serve, and make an impact in their communities.”

Ways to Support

Community members are encouraged to attend, sponsor, or place a congratulatory ad in the 2025 White Breakfast Souvenir Booklet. Ads and donations will be featured in both print and digital editions.
