Bulls Smash Three Home Runs in Series Opening Win Over Jacksonville

Durham, NC — Blake Sabol hit a tie-breaking home run in the sixth inning to lift the Durham Bulls past the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 9-7 on Tuesday afternoon at the DBAP.

Durham (10-18) hit three homers, including a two-run shot in the first by Carson Williams and a solo homer to right by Raynel Delgado in the third as the Bulls built a 3-1 lead on the Shrimp (13-15).

But Jacksonville scored four times in the fourth to forge ahead against first-time starter Aaron Brooks. But the Bulls pulled level in the fifth thanks to a passed ball, which scored Gavin Lux, and a single by Delgado to chase home Williams to make it 5-5.

Durham tacked on a run in the seventh, resulting from a double to left by Justyn-Henry Malloy, then two more in the eighth on a Delgado sac fly and groundout by Dom Keegan.

The Bulls had to withstand a Jacksonville rally in the ninth as the Shrimp loaded the bases with none out on two walks and an infield single. But Andrew Wantz closed out the game after a pair of sac flies.

KC Hunt (W, 2-2) notched the win in relief with 2 1/3 innings of hitless pitching.
Durham’s 12-game homestand continues Wednesday night at 6:45 PM ET with Brody Hopkins (0-2, 2.96) slated to start against Dax Fulton (1-2, 7.41).
