The event, organized in partnership with Repairers of the Breach, will take place on Monday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. outside Senator Thom Tillis’ office, located at 310 New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.

Participants will gather in public witness to speak out against:

  • Systemic poverty and economic inequality
  • Policy-driven violence and the war economy
  • Barriers to healthcare and environmental justice

Attendees are encouraged to bring their voices, presence, and, for clergy, religious vestments as a symbol of collective moral leadership.

A National Movement Rooted in History

Repairers of the Breach serves as a leading force behind the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, a movement co-launched in 2017.

The campaign builds on the legacy of:

  • Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
  • The 1968 Poor People’s Campaign
  • Broader movements for workers’ rights, women’s rights, and social justice

Today, the organization supports more than 30 state coordinating committees, helping to mobilize communities, provide training, and strengthen grassroots organizing efforts across the country.

Goals of the Campaign

The Poor People’s Campaign focuses on three core priorities:

  • Shifting the narrative around poverty using data and lived experiences
  • Building a diverse, unified movement to challenge unjust systems
  • Advancing a Third Reconstruction Agenda to support poor and low-wealth communities

Conclusion

As communities continue to grapple with economic and social disparities, events like Moral Monday serve as a platform for collective action and advocacy. Organizers hope the gathering will inspire meaningful dialogue—and ultimately, lasting change.
