Raleigh Police Provide Update of Arrest Made in 2019 Homicide Investigation
On June 6, 2019, Raleigh police officers responded to 3315 Vinson Court in reference to a deceased person found in a nearby park. Officers determined that the victim, Jorge Zelaya (26), had suffered stab wounds and died as a result of his injuries.
At the time of the investigation, Homicide Detectives interviewed individuals in the area and those connected to the victim but were unable to identify a suspect.
On February 25, 2026, Raleigh police detectives conducted a review of the evidence collected during the original investigation. The evidence was submitted to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory for additional testing using technology that was not available at the time of the incident.
On May 6, 2026, investigators received results identifying a positive match to evidence connected to Roger Riddick (49). The case was presented to the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, and charges were approved.
Today, May 21, 2026, Raleigh police officers arrested Mr. Riddick. He was processed at the Wake County Detention Center.
