McClain Rushes for Over 100 Yard; Shaw falls to Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – In the first ever meeting between Shaw University and FCS Division I Campbell University, senior running back Dorrell McClain (Raleigh, NC) rushed for 104 yards but Bears football team suffered a 42-0 decision to the Camels Saturday night at the Barker-Lane Stadium.

Shaw fell behind early and was never able to recover as the loss dips the Bears record to 1-2 overall while Campbell improves to 3-1 on the year.

The Camels found the end zone three times in the first quarter that led to a 21-0 lead after a 59 yard run from Daniel Smith in the opening possession. After CU scored on a seven yard rushing touchdown from Trey Sanders, McClain rushed for 61 yards for a Bears first down but the Bears couldn’t capitalize on a play that could’ve provided a spark.

In the second quarter, Campbell scored on a 12 yard pass from Smith to Aaron Blockmon at the 9:47 mark before closing out the first half with a one yard rush from Smith to go ahead 35-0 over Shaw at intermission.

The Bears accounted for just 112 yards of total offense compared to the Camels 351 total offensive yards at the break.

Despite a 35-0 deficit, Shaw was able to hold the Camels to just seven points in the second half.

Senior quarterback Keon Marsh (Queens, NY) completed 7-of-14 passes for 68 yards while junior wide receiver Marquis Gorham (Greenville, NC) tallied 33 yards on two receptions. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Jaleel Scroggins (Raleigh, NC) finished with 11 tackles, followed by sophomore defensive lineman Brandyne Mackey (Orange Park, FL) charted a career-high nine tackles in the setback.
