Blue Devils Fall At Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, V.A. – In their third game against a ranked opponent this season, the #19 Duke Blue Devils fell to #20 Virginia Tech 74-67. Sophomore Matthew Hurt led the way with 20 points and eleven rebounds, in addition to a 19-point performance from Freshman Jeremy Roach, returning to his home state of Virginia.

The Blue Devils as a whole combined for 6-9 from the free-throw line in the first half, and finished the game with eleven of fifteen made, but only made 8 three-point attempts out of 29. Before tonight’s game, Duke had scored 76.2 points per game, while allowing 70.4 points in its last five games.

“We just couldn’t knock down shots,” says Coach Mike Krzyzewski. “We have not played in an ACC game like that this season, but give credit to Mike (Young), his team is really good. They know who they are.“

The Hokies were led by Sophomore Tyrece Radford with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Keve Aluma scored 17 points on seven of fifteen shooting from the floor. Sophomore Jalen Cone from near-by Walkertown, NC led the bench in scoring with 14 points, making three of five three-point attempts and all three free-throw attempts.

Up next, Duke will have the weekend off and return to action next Tuesday to face the Pittsburgh Panthers at 9 pm ET.
