Bulls Snag Eighth Straight Victory Over Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE FL – The Durham Bulls (17-6) extended their winning streak to eight games after defeating the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (13-10) 8-1 on Saturday night. The Bulls remained lights out on the mound allowing just one run off six hits, and have allowed two runs in the last 36 innings versus Jacksonville. The offensive production was led by two home runs from Joseph Odom (2) and Deivy Grullo (4).
The Bulls put together an impressive bullpen game utilizing seven different pitchers shutting the door to secure their 17th win on the season. Ryan Sherriff received his first start and ninth appearance in 2021. He tossed one 1/3 perfect innings punching out two batters.
Sean Poppen, David Hess, Brian Moran, Chris Mazza, Adam Conley, and Phoenix Sanders followed the 31-year-old. Davis Hess lasted the longest out of the bunch going three innings surrendering one run on three hits. The only damage that was done came from an RBI single by Jesus Sanchez in the bottom of the third.
The Bulls had four players have multi-hit games, with Vidal Brujan, Ryan Boldt, and Dalton Kelly collecting two knocks each and the star of the game Grullo recording three. Durham put up runs in five of the nine innings of play and racked up 14 hits. Brujan opened up the scoring in the second, sending a single to left field that scored Wyatt Mathisen. Nathan Lukes, Odom, Kelly, and Grullo were responsible for the rest of the scoring to secure the Bulls 8-1 win.
The Bulls eye their first six-game sweep of the season and try to do it in revenge fashion versus the Jumbo Shrimp, who spoiled their home opener series weeks back. As long as the pitching stays hot, there is no reason why they should not dominate once again. It is terrible news for the rest of the league with the Bulls playing their best stretch of baseball of the campaign.
