Bulls keep rolling, take third straight on the road
JACKSONVILLE, FL — Durham Bulls starting RHP Kevin Herget struck out four batters in five innings en route to a 4-2 Bulls victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Friday evening.
This was the Bulls’ third win in the last four games on the road against the Jumbo Shrimp. Last week Durham won four of six games against the Louisville Bats, elevating them to third in the INT East.
The Bulls got things rolling in the top of the first with a Jim Haley groundout to second, bringing in Wander Franco to score. In the bottom of the second, Jacksonville infielder Charles Leblanc homered a two-run bomb to right field, giving the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-1 lead.
With two runners on base at the top of the third, Durham second baseman Wander Franco singled to center field for his first RBI of the season, bringing in Cal Stevenson to score. Third baseman Xavier Edwards would ground into a force out at second in the next at-bat, bringing in Miles Mastrobuoni to score. Mastrobuoni is third in runs scored for the Bulls this season.
During the bottom of the third, the Bulls substituted Kevin Herget for Luke Bard which ended up being the difference maker in the game. Herget shut out the Jumbo Shrimp in five innings as Jacksonville went on to be shut out for the rest of the game. Herget received the win for his efforts and is now 4-0 on the year for Durham.
The Bulls look to make it four straight tomorrow in the second to last series game with Jacksonville at 6:35 pm in 121 Financial Ballpark.
